Easy to get to...

 

by mule, car, bicycle or “hog”.

 

 

This picturesque "living ghost town" is located at the intersection of Highway 49 and 132.  The museum sits on the northwest corner, across from the historic Jeffery Hotel. 

 

Just 24 miles north of Mariposa and 28 miles south of the Jamestown/Sonora/Columbia area…a perfect stop for travelers exploring the famous Mother Lode trail.

 

Coulterville is an hour’s drive from either Merced or Modesto, and, about 25 miles from the northern entrance to Yosemite via 132 through Greeley Hill.

 

 

 

 

From Modesto:

 

Take Yosemite Blvd./CA Highway 132 east toward the Sierra -NevadaRange.


From Merced:

 

From  99, take CA59 to J16 (

Merced Falls Road
) and turn right on Highway 132 to Coulterville, about 50 miles!

 

From Turlock:

take East Avenue (J17) to CA 59 to J16 to Coulterville, about  50 miles!

 

From Yosemite:  From highway 120 turn left on

Smith Station Road
(highway 132), which becomes
Greeley Hill Road
.

 

You'll soon be in the coutryside, with farms and orchards soon giving way to oak covered rollings hills. Past Waterford the road starts a gentle climb , along the Tuolumne River, through the historic town of La Grange. You will travel past two large lakes, Lake Don Pedro and Lake McClure, both with modern camping facilities, picnic areas, waterskiing and fishing. Continue on highway 132 and Coulterville is just a few more miles up the road!
